Somaiya Vidyavihar University returns with the fourth edition of IMMERSE, its annual art residency and showcase. This year, the event highlights a powerful theme—सच कहें तो – To Tell the Truth. The showcase presents 11 emerging artists from across India with distinct, personal stories. They explore topics like identity, memory, heritage, migration, and the environment through diverse artistic methods.
A Lush and Sustainable Venue
IMMERSE 4.0 is being held on the zero-waste green campus of Somaiya Vidyavihar University in Mumbai. The exhibition opened to the public on April 12 and runs through May 5, 2025. Visitors can explore curated exhibitions, open studios, and participate in engaging public conversations. Curated with Care and Vision
This edition marks the first time three curators—Amshula Prakash, Himanshu Mahato, and Teesta Albuquerque—worked collaboratively. They bring a fresh, interdisciplinary perspective to the theme of truth-telling. The program was envisioned on campus by Siddharth Somaiya, in association with several key art mentors. Their shared goal: amplify underrepresented voices and expand the reach of contemporary Indian art.
Full Support for Participating Artists
Somaiya Vidyavihar University ensures artists receive comprehensive support throughout the program. Participants receive travel, accommodation, production resources, and studio space at no cost. Mentorship plays a key role, helping artists refine both traditional and contemporary techniques. Importantly, 100% of artwork proceeds go directly to the artists, empowering them financially.
An Academic Institution That Supports the Arts
Somaiya Vidyavihar University continues to champion the intersection of education and artistic inquiry. With the launch of Dr. Shantilal K. Somaiya School of Art, this vision gains further ground. Through IMMERSE, the university affirms that artistic expression is as valuable as academic research. It becomes a space where diverse cultures, languages, and histories shape artistic practice.
