Why the Pakistan education system is in a state of crisis? Over 26 million children are currently out of school. That’s the second-highest number in the world. But sadly, the government seems unmoved.
Education vs Defence: A Misplaced Priority
Pakistan spends just 1.5% of its GDP on education. Meanwhile, the defense budget crosses PKR 2 trillion. Guns get funded. Classrooms don’t. The Pakistan education system is left starving while tanks roll out proudly. It’s national security over national future.
No Toilets, No Water, No Power
Around 23% of schools lack basic infrastructure — no toilets, water, or electricity. Students sweat in summer. Teachers use candles during power cuts. Modern learning is impossible in such outdated environments.
Where Are the Labs and Computers?
Only 16.3% of schools have computer labs. Just 9.5% have science labs. Yet, the government dreams of “AI classrooms.” The Pakistan education system can’t go digital without electricity or internet.
Teachers Are Missing or Untrained
Pakistan faces a shortage of 4,327 science teachers at the federal level. More than 50% of teachers lack any formal training. So, who’s teaching the children? Often, no one.
Fancy Promises, Zero Action
The government launched “Uraan Pakistan,” a plan for 100% school enrollment. It sounds great on paper. But on ground? No change. Another announcement. Another forgotten dream for the Pakistan education system.
Girls Left in the Dark
Millions of girls remain out of school. In many areas, security threats and social norms block their education. Even in 2025, girls’ schools are attacked.
A System Set to Fail
The Pakistan education system is collapsing. Children are being failed. Promises are being broken. And the government doesn’t care. Unless priorities change, Pakistan will keep failing its future — one child at a time. Without urgent reforms, better funding, and real accountability, the country will continue producing more dropouts than doctors, and more illiteracy than innovation.
